about us
``Well, here we are and now is the time``
Hawkesbury River Psychology was born in Brazil, with questions. Questions asked before, during and after every single session delivered, either in one on one or groups; clinical settings or in the community.
These questions were motivated by disquiet and unsettling feeling of “I could offer more to these clients”. In addition, the socio-economic situation of the majority of Brazilians who need to access mental health services required more than a psychologist with clinical expertise; in fact, it required a psychologist willing to work beyond the “safe and structured” setting, and meeting and delivering Psychology services where “life” happens – everywhere.
Trying to find ways to provide broader mental health support and service to his clients, Mauro did a post-graduation in Art Therapy and Psychological Practice in Institutions which equipped him with the existential-phenomenological approach and would allow him to use different artistic mediums in order to access content that most of the time is difficult to put in words. His experience as a Psychologist proved that, regardless of the place, setting or circumstance, a meaningful moment could always be provided to the client enabling them to make sense of traumas, anxiety and depression amongst other mental health challenges/issues.
Mauro then started delivering psychology sessions at parks, gardens, sports fields using different mediums, games, movies, music, body movements, sculpturing, painting and other techniques facilitating a powerful and meaningful experience for all participants.
However, Mauro wanted to go even further and if you could ask one of his students what would be his ultimate goal as a psychologist, the answer would be “to deliver psychology sessions completely immersed in nature, watching the ocean or a river”.
Bachelor in Psychology; Graduate in Psychology; Post-Graduation in Art Therapy; Post-Graduation in Psychological Practice in Institutions. I undertook my psychological training in Brazil and have more than 16 years of experience in the provision of mental health care and psychological services and I am a registered Australian Psychologist. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, dealing with a range of complex emotional disorders, illnesses and life challenges. I am passionate about humanistic care and have extensive experience with existential therapy, client-centred and narrative therapy.
Always utilising evidence-based practice, my approach is carefully tailored to meet my client’s needs according to their own uniqueness. When it is possible, I like to introduce the use of artistic mediums in my practice which contributes significantly to my meaningful approach. I am fluent in both Portuguese and English.
